Our dealership was established in 1962 by Wally and Isabel Hutchinson as Wally's Harley-Davidson; and operated at 3350 and 3356 Lapeer Road until 1975. Joanne Gilbert started working for her parents (Wally and Isabel) in Sept 1966 in the parts department and the front office. Larry Gilbert worked part time prepping bikes and building engines. Wally and Isabel retired in 1975. Joanne ran the office at a new location for the new owner managing purchasing, receiving, and accounts payable.

In 1978, Larry and Joanne Gilbert secured the franchise and started over with 4 bare walls as Gilbert's Harley-Davidson of Port Huron, Inc. Gilbert's H-D finished the 9 month lease of the previous dealer while the Lapeer location was remodeled and moved into.

Many changes have occurred since:

• In 1978 remodeled sales floor and became first "Designer Store" in Michigan
• In 1987 the second level of the building became the HOG meeting room.
• In 1988 added east half of building for retail space
• In 1994, opened Michigan's first Alternate Retail Outlet, Birchwood Mall. Closed January 2010
• In 1998 remodeled west building for new Service Dept complete with new Dyno room
• In 1999 Complete remodel of showroom.
